ISIE 07- Toronto: Student’s Chapter Social Activities

Sat. June 16:

Distillery Blues Festival (www.distilleryblues.com) - FREE

Set on 13 acres in downtown Toronto, the forty plus buildings constitute the largest and best preserved collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture in North America. The Distillery District is a national historic site. In just the past few years, the district has become one of the most romantic and enjoyable destinations in the City. It is Toronto?s first pedestrian only village and the city?s only historic district. It is an area associated with creative thinking and expression. The area?s rebirth has been dedicated to promoting arts, culture and entertainment.

Note: the distillery district is accessible via public transportation (TTC). A direct bus can be caught from Union Subway Station. On Sat and Sun day pass for the TTC system can be shared by 2 people. They are $8.50 (a single ride token is $2.75)

Sun. June 17:

CN Tower (www.cntower.ca) - Group Rate of $12 each

Defining the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is Canada's most recognizable and celebrated icon. At a height of 553.33m (1,815 ft., 5 inches), it is Canada?s National Tower, the World's Tallest Building.

Sky Pod, the World's Highest Public Observation Deck is located at a dizzying 447 m (1,465 ft.).

Note: 20 people are needed for the group rate and a group reservation is needed 24hrs in advance. The observation decks close at 11pm. Thus, the group should arrive at 9:30pm at the latest to gaurantee entrance.

Mon. June 18:

Pub night at The Rex (www.therex.ca) - FREE entrance

Since the late '80s, the Rex has been at the forefront of Toronto's thriving local jazz scene. The casual atmosphere, eclectic mix of retro-chic decor, and an exciting variety of draught beer combine to make The Rex feel like a second home. The Rex Hotel has a patio with room for fifty people.

Note: The Rex is a short walk from the Marriot hotel and the student residence

Tues. June 19:

Harbourfront and Toronto Island

(www.toronto.ca/parks/island)- $6 ferry ride

The conference has organized a boat tour of the Toronto harbour and island but for those who want to explore the waterfront on there own a ferry can be taken to the island and bikes can be rented once you are there. The island is host to numerous swimable beaches and a quaint, self sufficient village.
